Prior to planting Haven City Church Josh was an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa serving under Brian Brodersen.
On November 7th, 1981, he was born at Wahiawa General Hospital in Oahu, HI. His dad and grandfather were both pastors at Pacific Islands Bible Church in Mililani, HI. He is the oldest of five kids.
In 1988 Josh's family moved to New Jersey where his Dad took the pastorate of an Evangelical Free church in Lawrenceville, NJ. His parents homeschooled Josh through almost all grades because he struggled with learning disabilities.
During a three week summer vacation in 1995 he was visiting his grandparents in Oahu. Josh's Grandpa made him an offer. He told him that he would pay me $100 if he would memorize 100 Bible verses. His Grandpa worked with him everyday to reach this goal. On the last day of the vacation he memorized the final verse. It was through this challenge that he surrendered his life to Christ. Josh's heart was awakened to a relationship with God and he sensed a call to full-time ministry.
In 1999 Josh left New Jersey to attend Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California. After graduating from the Bible College, he was hired by the same school to be an administrator and teacher. Josh married his wife Melinda in 2002. They have three kids: Hudson (14), Hayden (11) and Hanalei (8).
In 2007 Josh moved his family to the island of Kauai where he pioneered the start up of a Bible College. In 2010 they moved back to Southern California so that he could become the Interim Director at Calvary Chapel University. The University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in multiple fields.
In 2011 Josh came on staff full time with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. He served in a variety of roles including college faculty, Director of the Communications Department, and host for the Pastor's Perspective radio program.
