Dear Church,

We are living through a mental health crisis. The National Alliance on Mental Health published the following numbers for 2019:

  • 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year

  • 1 in 25 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year

  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-34

…and this is a weekly reality as I work with people inside and outside our church. The people around us — maybe you — are wracked with anxiety and depression. And in many instances the solutions are subpar and the coping is beneath the promises of God.

In this series I want to equip the Christian to think biblically about their mental health and offer a path forward that is wholistic because it is biblical, biological and practical.

I am praying that the Spirit of God will give us wisdom for a very difficult subject and that He will heal the brokenness manifested through mental illness.
